British police were Sunday investigating a mass stabbing on a London-bound train that left at least 10 people wounded, including nine critically, with two people arrested.<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s what we know so far:<\/p>\n
Police were alerted to an emergency on board a train between Doncaster, a town in northeast England and London\u2019s King\u2019s Cross Station \u2014 a typically busy route \u2014 at around 7:40 pm (1940 GMT) on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

The train was stopped at Huntingdon station in Cambridgeshire, where armed officers boarded the train as police cars, a fleet of ambulances and two air ambulances swarmed the station in the market town in eastern England.<\/p>\n
Local MP Ben Obese-Jecty said he had \u201cnever seen as big a response\u201d to an emergency incident as he attended the scene.<\/p>\n
Ten people were taken to the hospital, with \u201cnine believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries\u201d, British Transport Police said in an update in the early hours of Sunday.<\/p>\n
Witnesses on board the train have described scenes of chaos and horror as an attacker with a large knife stabbed passengers on board.<\/p>\n
Witness Olly Foster told the BBC that he heard people shouting \u201crun, run, there\u2019s a guy literally stabbing everyone,\u201d and initially thought it was a Halloween-related prank.<\/p>\n
But passengers then started pushing through the carriage, Foster said, adding that his hand was left \u201ccovered in blood\u201d that had spilled onto the chair he had been leaning on.<\/p>\n
Foster said he saw an older man block the assailant from stabbing a younger girl, adding that the attack \u201cfelt like forever\u201d though it lasted only minutes.<\/p>\n
A witness told The Times newspaper there was \u201cblood everywhere\u201d as people hid in the washrooms.<\/p>\n
Others told Sky News they saw a man holding a large knife on the platform after the train halted. They then saw the man tasered and restrained by police.<\/p>\n
Police \u201carrested two people in connection to the incident who have been taken to police custody.\u201d<\/p>\n
The identity of the suspects is not yet known, nor is the motive behind the attack. The police and the government have urged the public not to speculate about who was behind the attack and why.<\/p>\n
Police declared it a \u201cmajor incident\u201d and counter terror police is aiding the investigation, which continued on Sunday as Huntingdon station remained closed and cordoned off to the public.<\/p>\n
Defence Secretary John Healey said Sunday the early assessment was that the incident was an \u201cisolated attack\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo there\u2019s no reason for the rest of us not to get on with our lives, get on and travel to the places we need to get to,\u201d Healey told Sky News.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the \u201cappalling\u201d incident was \u201cdeeply concerning\u201d.<\/p>\n
London North Eastern Railway, which operates along the route, urged customers not to travel on Sunday due to ongoing disruptions, saying services may be cancelled at short notice.<\/p>\n
Knife crime in England and Wales has increased since 2011, according to official government data.<\/p>\n
While Britain has some of the strictest gun controls in the world, rampant knife crime has been branded a \u201cnational crisis\u201d by Starmer.<\/p>\n
His Labour government has tried to rein in their use.<\/p>\n
Nearly 60,000 blades have been either \u201cseized or surrendered\u201d in England and Wales as part of government efforts to halve\u00a0knife\u00a0crime\u00a0within a decade, the interior ministry said Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Sky News presenter Trevor Phillips recalled the 2019 London Bridge stabbings when discussing the latest attack.<\/p>\n
Two people were killed and several others injured in the heart of Britain\u2019s capital before the attacker \u2014 a convicted terrorist \u2014 was shot dead by police.<\/p>\n
A series of other high-profile attacks have shaken the country in the last year, including the murder of three girls at a dance class in Southport in July 2024, one of the country\u2019s worst mass stabbings in years.<\/p>\n
