According to informed sources, the ministry\u2019s central services sent an urgent circular to regional governors and provincial officials, calling for the immediate creation of regional and provincial \u201cvigilance committees\u201d tasked with managing and closely tracking flood risks.<\/p>\n
The move aims to boost early action, improve readiness, and ensure strong coordination between all actors on the ground.<\/p>\n

These committees will bring together local authorities, technical departments, government sectors, civil protection services, and agencies in charge of water and infrastructure, along with other key stakeholders.<\/p>\n

The Interior Ministry\u2019s instructions are based on the Water Law (36.15) and a recent decree on flood prevention and risk management. Under the plan, each region and province will have its own vigilance committee, both chaired by the regional governor.<\/p>\n
Governors and provincial heads are also required to prepare regular reports on the committees\u2019 work and submit them to the ministry.<\/p>\n
A strong focus is being placed on prevention. Authorities have been told to update flood risk maps, closely monitor rivers, dams, and water facilities, and strengthen early warning and monitoring systems.<\/p>\n
The ministry also stressed the need to mobilize the necessary human and logistical resources to respond immediately to any potential threat.<\/p>\n
The push comes after shortcomings were identified in the follow-up of sewage projects and rainwater drainage networks, especially in the Casablanca-Settat region and several coastal cities.<\/p>\n
Recent heavy rainfall raised concerns about weaknesses in infrastructure, prompting closer technical inspections.<\/p>\n
In parallel, central authorities have asked local administrations to prepare detailed \u201csituation reports\u201d on the state of ongoing and completed infrastructure and road projects. In a recent opinion, the Economic, Social and Environmental Council warned that natural disasters cost Morocco more than MAD 8 billion every year, around 0.8% of GDP.<\/p>\n
