Following the controversial incidents in the 2025 AFCON final between hosts Morocco and Senegal, supporters have underscored their broad national backing for Rabat’s AS FAR.

During the match AFCON final on Sunday, Senegalese fans in the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium attacked multiple journalists, volunteers, and security forces after attempting to storm the pitch following Senegal’s 1-0 win.

During the match, Moroccans residing in other African countries posted videos on social media allegedly showing instances of verbal and physical assault while the match was ongoing. Following the AFCON final, Moroccans on social media highlighted wider feelings of alienation by other African fans and strengthened calls for unity and restraint.

Against this backdrop, sports and human rights groups have issued an urgent appeal to AS FAR supporters, calling on them to refrain from traveling to Algeria to attend the match. The groups say the appeal will prevent potential risks to fans’ physical and psychological safety.

The call reflects what organizers describe as genuine concerns over possible harassment, arbitrary arrests, or hostile behavior toward Moroccan supporters, citing previous sporting events in which Moroccan fans and athletes faced conduct that they say violated the spirit of sportsmanship.

Those behind the appeal underpinned that fans can support the team in safe and responsible ways, either from within Morocco or through media coverage and social media platforms, without risking travel to what they describe as an “environment lacking clear official guarantees for the protection and rights of visiting supporters,” newspaper “Layoune Now” reported.

The appeal also said that fan safety is the top priority and that true support does not depend solely on stadium attendance. Instead, organizers argued that responsible and aware backing best preserves dignity and security while reflecting a civilized image of Moroccan supporters.

AS FAR will rely on its continental experience and long history to secure a positive result away from home, despite limited fan attendance, the appeal said. The team enters the match with high morale and strong nationwide support, with many observers viewing the fixture as a real test of the squad’s resilience and ability to handle pressure on and off the pitch.

Rephrase in a different way as if you were a native American speaker as a content creation expert and do not talk about yourself or your experience in the text and do not show yourself as an artificial intelligence who wrote and fill the bullet point in the topic and speak the heart of the topic itself and dont take date of blog in ther first and dont take text like box of newsliter subscribe on post from content and romove all linke insert in content and and remove all affiliate disclosure phrases on content like this “This post may contain Amazon or other affiliate links that allow us to earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
