    The Tangier Med<\/strong> Port Authority has presented its port activity report<\/strong> for 2025, highlighting the growth in its activity compared to the previous year.<\/p>\n

    More than 11 million containers<\/h2>\n

    In terms of container numbers, 11,106,164<\/strong> TEU containers (standardised measurement of 20-foot-long containers, used to compare port traffic) passed through the Tangier Med<\/strong><\/a> facilities last year, representing an 8.4%<\/strong> increase on 2024.<\/p>\n

    To cope with this increase<\/strong> in container<\/strong> traffic, it was necessary to bring into service the latest extension of the TC4<\/strong> terminal, operated by APM Terminals, the transport and logistics division of the Danish shipping company Maersk<\/strong>. It should be remembered that in 2024 the port of Tangier Med had already reached its maximum capacity, with more than nine million containers, making a new expansion of the facilities essential, the third since this facility was put into service.<\/p>\n

    In terms of road traffic, truck traffic<\/strong> grew slightly in 2025 compared to the previous year, by 3.6%<\/strong>, reaching 535,203<\/strong> heavy vehicles.<\/p>\n

    According to the Port Authority’s report, this growth is explained by the 4.8%<\/strong> increase in exports<\/strong> of industrial<\/strong> products and 4.3% in agri-food<\/strong> products, making Tangier Med a key element in the Moroccan economy.<\/p>\n

    Tangier Med<\/strong> is also a key point for the transport<\/strong> of cars<\/strong> from Morocco to Europe, which has become one of the country’s main export activities in recent years.<\/p>\n

    In 2025, the two vehicle terminals at Tangier Med handled the transport of a total of 526,862<\/strong> vehicles, a 12%<\/strong> decrease compared to the previous year, due to adjustments in car<\/strong> production<\/strong> resulting from changes in market demand and the reconfiguration of flows in global car markets.<\/p>\n

      Operation Marhaba<\/h2>\n

      In terms of passenger traffic, year-on-year growth was 5.7%<\/strong>, with more than 3.2<\/strong> million<\/strong> passengers, while the number of vehicles was 895,341<\/strong>, up 5%.<\/p>\n

      A large part of these figures correspond to the so-called Operation Marhaba<\/strong> or Crossing<\/strong> of the Strait<\/strong>, one of the port’s annual highlights in terms of vehicle and passenger traffic crossing the Strait during the summer season.<\/p>\n

      According to the Port Authority, in order to speed up this transit, a fixed<\/strong> ticket<\/strong> system<\/strong> was introduced in 2025<\/strong>, which helped to regulate flows according to the actual capacity of the fleet and ensured smoother crossings.<\/p>\n

      Bulk activity and total tonnage<\/h2>\n

      In 2025, the port in northern Morocco recorded solid bulk traffic equivalent to 522,493<\/strong> tonnes<\/strong>, which also represents an 11%<\/strong> decrease compared to the previous year, which the Port Authority attributes to the postponement of cereal<\/strong> imports compared to 2024.<\/p>\n

      In contrast, liquid<\/strong> bulk<\/strong> increased by 13%<\/strong> year-on-year to 8.6 million tonnes, driven by hydrocarbon<\/strong> traffic.<\/p>\n

      In total, the port complex handled 161<\/strong> million<\/strong> tonnes of cargo in 2025, 13.3%<\/strong> more than the previous year, placing it at the top of the Mediterranean<\/strong> and African ports.<\/p>\n

      Port calls<\/h2>\n

      Finally, port calls amounted to 16,686<\/strong> in 2025<\/strong>, 4.45%<\/strong> less than in 2024. This is explained by the international trend in passenger and freight transport to increase the size<\/strong> of ships to provide them with greater capacity, which obviously reduces the number of annual units.<\/p>\n

      Of these, 1,319<\/strong> belonged to the mega-ship<\/strong> category (more than 290<\/strong> metres in length), representing an 8.4%<\/strong> year-on-year increase.<\/p>\n
