    Royal Air Maroc<\/strong> has launched a dozen new regular routes<\/strong> that will connect Moroccan airports<\/strong> such as Casablanca, Tetouan, Tangier and Nador not only with Madrid and Barcelona<\/strong>, but also with other cities such as Bilbao, Alicante and Malaga<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Development plan<\/h2>\n

    The launch of these new regular air routes<\/strong> is part of the development plan<\/strong> promoted by the Moroccan flag carrier to strengthen connectivity<\/strong> between the northern region<\/strong> of the country and the main Spanish airports<\/strong>. This is the company’s most ambitious plan in its more than half a century of existence.<\/p>\n

    The aim is to consolidate<\/strong> Royal Air Maroc<\/a>‘s<\/strong> role as a strategic air bridge<\/strong> between Morocco and Spain<\/strong>, as well as to strengthen the connectivity of the Casablanca hub<\/strong> to allow travellers from Spanish airports to access the Moroccan airline’s African and international network.<\/p>\n

    Strengthening Spanish-Moroccan connections<\/h2>\n

    The presentation of these new routes<\/strong>, which took place in Madrid<\/strong> on Friday, 13 February, was attended by the Moroccan ambassador to Spain<\/strong>, Karima Benyaich<\/strong>. The diplomat noted that \u2018the launch of these new air routes reflects the strengthening of bilateral relations between Morocco and Spain, two neighbouring and friendly countries with a shared history, deep historical ties and increasingly close and diversified cooperation\u2019.<\/p>\n

    For Benyaich, \u2018ours is a lasting and mutually beneficial partnership<\/strong>. The competition is not between Morocco and Spain<\/strong>, it is in other regions<\/strong>, and together we can make more progress in Asia and America<\/strong>.\u2019<\/p>\n

    The ambassador referred to the Moroccan diaspora<\/strong>, the Moroccan citizens residing in Spain: “Spain is home to a large Moroccan community<\/strong>, the largest foreign community in terms of numbers. Most are integrated and are the leading contributors to Social Security<\/strong>. In this context, air connectivity<\/strong> plays a very important role. It is not just about creating new routes: it is about building bridges, shortening distances, bringing people closer together and strengthening ties. It is the answer to the mobility needs<\/strong> between Morocco and Spain.”<\/p>\n

    Target: 31 million passengers<\/h2>\n

    For his part, the Vice-President of Royal Air Maroc<\/strong>, Amine El Farissi<\/strong>, emphasised the growth that this strategic plan represents for the company: “We are moving from being a traditional airline with a hub in Casablanca to a transcontinental airline. We are going to go from transporting 7.5 million passengers<\/strong> to more than 31 million<\/strong>, with an aircraft acquisition programme until 2037<\/strong> that will increase our fleet to 200 units. This is the most important project in Royal Air Maroc’s more than 50 years of history.”<\/p>\n

    Regarding the increase in activity that will result from the organisation of the 2030 World Cup<\/strong> between Morocco, Spain and Portugal<\/strong>, El Farissi explained that “we have started in Spain with the development of these new routes four years before the World Cup<\/strong> in order to serve as many destinations as possible. Our goal is to increase the frequency and capacity<\/strong> of existing routes to offer up to four or five weekly services<\/strong>, if necessary. All of this will be developed according to the mobility needs of the population, in order to provide maximum connectivity when necessary.”<\/p>\n

    New routes<\/h2>\n

    The new regular routes<\/strong> being launched<\/strong> by the company<\/strong> are as follows<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

    • Tetouan-Barcelona, with two weekly flights, starting on 27 March.<\/li>\n
    • Tetouan-Malaga, with three weekly flights, starting on 28 March.<\/li>\n
    • Tetouan-Madrid, with three weekly flights, starting on 28 March.<\/li>\n
    • Tangier-Malaga, with two weekly flights, starting on 6 July.<\/li>\n
    • Tangier-Madrid, with two weekly flights, starting on 7 September.<\/li>\n
    • Tangier-Barcelona, with two weekly flights, starting on 3 July.<\/li>\n
    • Nador-Barcelona, with two weekly flights, from 10 September.<\/li>\n
    • Casablanca-Bilbao, with three weekly flights, from 1 April.<\/li>\n
    • Casablanca-Alicante, with three weekly flights, from 1 April.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      In addition, the strategic plan for 2037<\/strong> aims to have a fleet of 200 aircraft<\/strong> that will carry 32 million passengers a year<\/strong>, with 73 new destinations in Europe<\/strong>, 12 new destinations in Africa<\/strong>, 13 new destinations in America and 10 new destinations in Asia and the Middle East.<\/p>\n

      Fleet expansion<\/h2>\n

      To meet the needs<\/strong> arising from the launch of these new routes, the company has launched a tender<\/strong> for the acquisition of 188 aircraft<\/strong>, which will be progressively incorporated until 2037<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      New B-787-9 Dreamliner<\/strong> and B-737 MAX<\/strong> aircraft have already been added, and the company plans to put new aircraft into service before the end of this year<\/strong>, increasing its current fleet of 62 to 72<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      The acquisitions will enable it to expand its network<\/strong> with the opening of new domestic and international routes<\/strong> in Africa, Europe, South America and Asia<\/strong>, with destinations such as Los Angeles<\/strong>, St Petersburg, Sao Paulo, Toronto, Catania, Naples, Zurich, Munich, Beijing<\/strong>, Abuja and N’Djamena, among others.<\/p>\n

      The presentation of the new air routes<\/strong> between Casablanca, Tangier, Tetouan and Nador<\/strong>, and several Spanish cities<\/strong>, also served as a backdrop for the signing of two collaboration agreements<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      The first of these agreements<\/strong> was signed between Royal Air Maroc<\/strong> and the Ibn Battuta Foundation<\/strong>. The agreement was signed by the airline’s vice-president<\/strong>, Amine El Farissi<\/strong>, and the foundation’s president, Mohamed Chaib Akhdim.<\/p>\n

      The second collaboration agreement<\/strong> links the Moroccan airline and the Centre Euro Africa<\/strong>, whose president, Divaika Kiemba<\/strong>, was responsible for signing the collaboration agreement<\/strong> with the vice-president of Royal Air Maroc<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
