The United Arab Emirates decried Monday that it was being targeted \u201cin a very unwarranted manner\u201d in the Middle East war, stressing it would \u201cnot partake in any attacks against Iran\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe UAE does not seek to be drawn into conflict or escalation,\u201d said Jamal Al Musharakh, the UAE\u2019s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been very clear before and leading up to the current events we are witnessing in the region that as the UAE we will not partake in any attacks against Iran from our territory, and that we will not be involved in such a conflict,\u201d he told the UN correspondents\u2019 association ACANU.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur bases are not being used to attack Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n
Musharakh said the UAE was calling for a return to the negotiating table.<\/p>\n
The United States and Iran held a third round of indirect talks through Omani negotiators, on Iran\u2019s nuclear programme, in Geneva on February 26.<\/p>\n
Two days later, the United States and Israel launched the first wave of attacks in a war that has seen Iran strike targets in multiple countries around the Gulf, including in the UAE.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were one of the countries that constantly called for the need for a negotiation, the need for diplomacy, the need for de-escalation,\u201d Musharakh said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd we have constantly informed that our territories would not be used for any attacks against Iran. Yet we are being targeted, frankly, in a very unwarranted manner.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said the UAE had been subjected to more than 1,400 attacks since the conflict began \u2014 including attacks with cruise and ballistic missiles, and drones \u2014 of which \u201cthe vast majority were intercepted and neutralised\u201d by the country\u2019s armed forces.<\/p>\n
He said the \u201cunprovoked targeting\u201d of civilian infrastructure such as desalination and energy plants, was \u201cunacceptable\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cTragically, these attacks have resulted in four civilian fatalities, as well as 114 minor injuries,\u201d the ambassador said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe UAE and other Gulf countries are not parties to the conflict\u2026 There is no legal basis for targeting third-party states that are not involved in hostilities.\u201d<\/p>\n
Iran\u2019s President Masoud Pezeshkian apologised on Saturday to neighbouring countries for attacks launched during the war.<\/p>\n
Regarding that apology, Musharakh said: \u201cThe actions on the ground speak for themselves: my country is being attacked. Enough said.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
