Morocco’s national team coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, revealed the 28-man squad for the March training camp, which includes two friendly matches: against Ecuador on March 27 in Madrid and Paraguay on March 31 in Lens, France. The camp comes at a critical stage in preparations for the World Cup.

Speaking at a press conference, Ouahbi described the period as the final opportunity for the technical staff to evaluate key options. “This squad will be an important test against strong opponents, raising competitiveness and readiness,” he said. He stressed that the focus is not solely on results, but also on “establishing a clear playing identity and giving opportunities to hardworking players.”

The coach highlighted the inclusion of two young players, Ait Boudlal and Zabiri, despite their limited playing time at club level. Both will join the camp to gain experience and confidence, play a match with the under-23 team in Madrid, and then rejoin the senior squad in Lens.

Regarding the continued absence of Hakim Ziyech, Ouahbi avoided singling out individual players, emphasizing that selection is based on physical readiness and performance level. He noted that the staff has monitored about 60 players recently, with the next two months proving decisive in finalizing the World Cup squad.

On the debate surrounding the omission of Ayoub Bouaddi, Ouahbi said communication with the player was positive, acknowledging his interest in the national team project. He stressed that final decisions are personal and that the technical staff prefers not to pressure young players, allowing them to make choices calmly.

This camp is expected to be pivotal, allowing the technical team to test new talent while fine-tuning the squad ahead of the World Cup, building on the legacy of coach Walid Regragui, who led Morocco to a historic semifinal in the previous tournament.
