On <\/span>April 6th, 2026, Lufthansa operated two special flights to commemorate its 100th anniversary,<\/b> which were numbered <\/span>LH1926 and LH2026.<\/b> Flight <\/span>LH1926<\/b> was operated by the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner<\/b> with registration <\/span>D-ABPU<\/b> on the <\/span>Berlin-Zurich route,<\/b> while flight <\/span>LH2026<\/b> was conducted on the Airbus A350<\/b> registered <\/span>D-AIXL,<\/b> in this case on the <\/span>Berlin-Cologne service.<\/b><\/p>\n

Over the <\/span>next 100 years, several changes took place in Lufthansa\u2019s history. <\/b>The <\/span>airline abandoned its hub in the German capital<\/b> and<\/span> moved its main operations to Frankfurt,<\/b> although it <\/span>also developed an important international network in Munich,<\/b> which became the <\/span>hub chosen for its Airbus A380s.<\/b><\/p>\n

Within Europe, Lufthansa operates flights<\/b> from <\/span>Flughafen M\u00fcnchen Franz Josef Strau\u00df, <\/span><\/i>Munich International Airport as it is known in English<\/b>, to <\/span>Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey <\/b>and the <\/span>United Kingdom.<\/b><\/p>\n

Almost all of these flights are operated using narrow-body aircraft,<\/b> including the <\/span>Airbus A319, Airbus A320, Airbus A321, CRJ-900, and Embraer 195.<\/b> In addition, <\/span>as you can see in our database<\/span>, <\/span>Lufthansa currently offers 12 weekly flights between Frankfurt and Munich on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft,<\/b> making it the <\/span>world\u2019s shortest regular route performed by the 787 <\/b>and one of the <\/span>few within Europe using wide-body aircraft.<\/b><\/p>\n

As for its network <\/b>outside <\/span>Europe,<\/b> Frankfurt serves as its main hub,<\/b> offering <\/span>more flights to Africa, the Americas, and Asia than Munich,<\/b> from where it also <\/span>operates routes to these three continents. <\/b>One of the <\/span>main differences between the two hubs is the aircraft used<\/b> for their <\/span>intercontinental services<\/b>, with <\/span>Munich<\/b> operating the Airbus A380-800<\/b> and <\/span>Frankfurt the Boeing 747-8i.<\/b><\/p>\n

The German airline has 12 Boeing 747-8i aircraft in its fleet,<\/b> having added the<\/span> first one in April 2012. These aircraft feature four different liveries,<\/b> including the <\/span>previous livery, the new livery, the retro livery, and the 100th-anniversary livery.<\/b><\/p>\n

All of its Boeing 747-8s are based at Frankfurt Airport,<\/b> serving <\/span>Buenos Aires, Chicago, Johannesburg, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Miami, San Francisco, Tokyo Haneda, and Washington.<\/b><\/p>\n

In addition to the Boeing 747-8s,<\/b> Lufthansa bases<\/b> its <\/span>Boeing 747-400(ER) and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft in Frankfurt for its intercontinental network;<\/b> it currently has <\/span>eight and fifteen of these aircraft in its fleet,<\/b> respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n

On <\/span>May 19th, 2010,<\/b> the <\/span>Airbus A380-841<\/b> with <\/span>serial number 038 landed at Frankfurt Airport brand new from the factory,<\/b> marking the <\/span>delivery of the first A380 to Lufthansa. <\/b>The <\/span>aircraft received the German registration D-AIMA<\/b> and a <\/span>configuration for 509 passengers in four classes,<\/b> with <\/span>8 seats <\/b>in <\/span>First, 78 <\/b>in <\/span>Business, 52 <\/b>in <\/span>Premium Economy, <\/b>and <\/span>371 <\/b>in <\/span>Economy.<\/b><\/p>\n

Lufthansa\u2019s subsequent 13 Airbus A380s had the same seating configuration,<\/b> bearing the <\/span>registration numbers D-AIMB through D-AIMN.<\/b> However,<\/span> due to the COVID-19 pandemic,<\/b> all the aircraft were taken out of service in March 2020,<\/b> but in <\/span>June 2022 it was announced that the SuperJumbos would be returning.<\/b><\/p>\n

Eight Airbus A380-800s resumed operations as of Summer 2023,<\/b> with <\/span>Munich Airport serving as their base.<\/b> The <\/span>other six A380s,<\/b> registered as <\/span>D-AIMD, D-AIME, D-AIMF, D-AIMG, D-AIMI, and D-AIMJ,<\/b> remain in <\/span>Teruel <\/b>(Spain), with the exception of <\/span>D-AIMI,<\/b> which is parked in <\/span>Lourdes<\/b> (France).<\/span><\/p>\n

The intercontinental network operated by Lufthansa from Munich<\/b> consists of <\/span>two aircraft types<\/b>, the <\/span>Airbus A350-900 and the Airbus A380-800.<\/b> As for its <\/span>A350s<\/b>, the <\/span>airline has 31 aircraft in its fleet,<\/b> including one <\/span>featuring special centennial livery,<\/b> and <\/span>plans to introduce the longer variant<\/b> of the <\/span>Airbus A350<\/b>, the <\/span>Airbus A350-1000,<\/b> in the near future. <\/span>D-AIFA<\/b> and <\/span>D-AIFB<\/b> will be its first two registration numbers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
