The prosecutor general at the Court of Appeal in Fez has said Moroccan authorities requested the launch of a formal investigation of 21 people over the collapse of two buildings in the city in December 2025 that killed 22 people and injured 16 others, according to Morocco\u2019s Press Agency (MAP).<\/p>\n

In a statement, the prosecutor general said the Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office had referred the matter to an investigating judge and sought the opening of a formal criminal inquiry on charges including involuntary manslaughter, unintentional bodily harm, active and passive bribery, unlawful disposal of inalienable property, complicity in those offenses, and the undue issuance of administrative certificates.<\/p>\n

Investigations supported by expert reports found that both buildings had been expanded with additional floors without legal authorization and with reused construction materials.<\/p>\n

The investigation also found that sales deeds had been executed outside the applicable legal framework, and residence certificates had been issued in breach of laws and regulations.<\/p>\n

The investigating judge remanded eight suspects into custody and released the other 11 on bail pending further investigation.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
