This is FALSE,\u201d CENTCOM said in a fact-check.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-text\">The US military command said the strait remains open for commercial vessel traffic, adding that thousands of ships have passed through the international waterway over the past four months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-text\">The statement was issued to counter what CENTCOM described as a repeated claim by the Iranian government that it had shut the crucial maritime passage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-text\">The Strait of Hormuz is a key international shipping route connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
