The Land Cruiser gives you more of your money back when you sell, and costs less to run in between. Across UAE listings a five-year-old Patrol asks about 43% of its new price, a five-year-old Land Cruiser about 56%. Which one is better depends almost entirely on how long you intend to keep it.

Stand outside any petrol station in Dubai for long enough and you will see both of them: a Land Cruiser easing in beside a Patrol, two drivers who could be cross-shopping the same budget and walking away with completely different cars. Ask either owner why they chose the one they did and you get a confident answer. Ask them to back it up with numbers and most cannot. That is the gap this article closes.

Every other Nissan Patrol vs Land Cruiser comparison online argues about horsepower and quotes showroom prices for brand-new cars. That is not the decision most UAE buyers are actually making. If you are reading this, you are almost certainly choosing between two used examples, weighing a lower price today against a stronger resale tomorrow, and wondering whether the Toyota’s reputation is worth what it costs to buy in.

So here is the shape of it. Used pricing across the UAE market shows a five-year-old Patrol sitting at about 43% of its new asking price while a five-year-old Land Cruiser sits at about 56%. Fuel and insurance run higher on the Patrol side too. The rest of this article shows you exactly where the line falls between those two facts.

Used Nissan Patrol vs Land Cruiser prices in Dubai, by model year

Median asking prices from live UAE listings. Read the mileage columns alongside the prices, because they explain a good deal of the gap. A 2016 Patrol on the market typically shows 177,000 km. A 2016 Land Cruiser typically shows 55,000 km. Part of what you are paying for with the Toyota is a car that has usually done far less work.

A single set of listings can skew toward whichever dealers are stocking heaviest that month, so this pricing was sampled across more than one point in the UAE resale market for the same model years. For 2020, Patrol asking prices cluster tightly around AED 119,000 across the wider market, within a few thousand dirhams of our own 2020 median of AED 120,743. Land Cruiser asking prices for 2020 sit closer to AED 160,000 in the wider market, roughly 1.3 times the Patrol figure; our own 2020 Land Cruiser median runs about 1.5 times the Patrol, slightly wider than the market average because our Land Cruiser mix that day leaned toward higher trims.

The direction holds everywhere. The Land Cruiser costs meaningfully more than the Patrol at every model year, and the gap widens with age.

How much below asking price should you expect to negotiate

Every price in the table above is an asking price, not a closing price, and the gap between the two is where a lot of buyers either save real money or leave it on the table.

CarSwitch, which tracks closed sales in Dubai rather than listings, puts most used cars in the emirate at roughly 7 to 8% below asking once negotiation is done. On older premium SUVs it measures more room than that: around 12 to 13% off on the BMW X5 and Audi Q7 examples it has tracked. Those are not Patrols or Land Cruisers, so treat the higher figure as the shape of the premium-SUV segment rather than a measurement of these two specifically.

Applied as a range, on a 2020 Patrol asking AED 120,743 that works out to roughly AED 8500 to 15,700 off. On a 2020 Land Cruiser asking AED 182,500 it works out to roughly AED 12,800 to 23,700 off.

A seller’s situation moves this more than the model does. A private seller relocating out of the UAE, or a dealer clearing older stock ahead of quarter-end, will typically move further than a dealer with steady turnover and no urgency. Our listings show asking prices, not closed sale prices, so treat the figures above as a starting point for a negotiation rather than a fixed number, and use the specific listing’s time on market, its mileage against the typical band for its year, and its condition as your leverage once you make an offer.

Which holds its value better in the UAE?

Using the 2026 median asking price as the starting point, here is what each model is actually asking at different ages.

Age

Patrol retains

Land Cruiser retains

1 year

94%

91%

3 years

54%

77%

5 years

43%

56%

7 years

35%

48%

10 years

22%

40%

The two cars track each other for the first year. After that they separate sharply, and the separation happens in years two and three: the Patrol drops 40 points of value between one and three years old, the Land Cruiser drops 14.

Turned into an annual cost, buying at the current new price and selling at the current used price for that age works out at roughly:

Five-year-old car: Patrol loses about AED 37,900 a year, Land Cruiser about AED 28,000

Seven-year-old car: Patrol about AED 30,700 a year, Land Cruiser about AED 23,570

Ten-year-old car: Patrol about AED 25,770 a year, Land Cruiser about AED 19,200

That logic reverses if you are the second owner. The buyer purchasing a five-year-old car is buying after the drop, not paying for it. You get a full-size V8 SUV for AED 140,464 instead of AED 177,000, and the steep part of its depreciation curve is already behind it. Our wider look at cars with strong resale value in the UAE sets out which models behave this way and which do not.

What each one actually costs to run

Depreciation is the biggest line item, but it is not the only one, and on every other line the Land Cruiser also comes out ahead, by smaller margins.

Fuel is the clearest gap. ArabWheels puts the Patrol V8 at an official figure of around 14.5 litres per 100 km and a real-world 16 to 18 in mixed UAE driving, rising toward 20 in heavy city traffic. The newer twin-turbo V6 Patrol improves on that, at a real-world 13 to 15. The Land Cruiser’s diesel and hybrid options are the more efficient side of this comparison, which is the direction every UAE cost guide points, though a like-for-like real-world figure for the current Land Cruiser range is worth checking against your own trim rather than taken from a headline number. At current UAE petrol prices, even two or three litres per 100 km is a monthly difference you will notice.

Insurance follows a similar pattern. UAE insurers quote comprehensive Patrol cover across a wide band depending on model year, trim and driver profile, with V8 models sitting toward the higher end. Land Cruiser comprehensive premiums are typically calculated as a percentage of the car’s insured value, so they land in a broadly similar band once you account for the higher purchase price, but per dirham of resale value the Land Cruiser is the cheaper car to insure.

Maintenance tells the same story. Independent UAE workshop estimates put a Patrol V8 major service at roughly AED 1200 to 2500, with tyres running AED 500 to 900 each and needing replacement every 40,000 to 50,000 km given the car’s weight and power. Toyota’s dense UAE parts and service network keeps Land Cruiser servicing similarly priced, but the V6’s simpler design and long record of running high mileage with minimal intervention means fewer surprise bills once a car passes 100,000 km, which is exactly the band most used Patrols and Land Cruisers sit in.

None of these are large numbers individually. Stacked on top of the depreciation gap, they explain why UAE dealers and cost guides consistently describe the Land Cruiser as the cheaper car to own over a five-year hold, even though it costs more to buy.

Where the Patrol claws it back

The Patrol’s case is not just a lower sticker price. Independent reviews and manufacturer specs consistently give it the edge on interior refinement, rear-passenger comfort and on-road power, and the twin-turbo V6 closes much of the old fuel gap against the outgoing V8. If your budget stops at AED 150,000, the Patrol also puts you in a newer car than a Land Cruiser at the same money. And none of the running-cost gap matters much if you plan to keep the car five years or more, because by then the purchase-price saving has already outweighed the extra fuel and insurance. It is also the SUV most people here reach for when the tarmac runs out.

How much choice you actually get at each budget

Availability moves in a clear pattern by budget band. Under AED 100,000, Patrol listings noticeably outnumber Land Cruiser wagons, giving a buyer shopping that range real choice across trims and mileage. Between AED 100,000 and AED 200,000 the two even out. Above AED 200,000 the pattern flips hard and Land Cruiser listings clearly outnumber Patrol listings, reflecting how much more of the Toyota’s used stock sits in higher trims. If your budget is around AED 80,000 and you want a full-size SUV that has not been imported, the used Patrol is realistically the one of the two with a deep enough market to shop properly.

Body styles: the Land Cruiser is three different cars

“Land Cruiser” on the UAE used market covers three distinct vehicles. Most of what people mean when they compare it to a Patrol is the station wagon. Separate from that is the 70 Series, the boxy hardtop workhorse at a median around AED 170,000; nothing in the Patrol range competes with it directly, and the closest thing in spirit is the Super Safari at a median around AED 180,000. There is also the Pickup body, median around AED 170,396, with no Patrol equivalent at all. If you are cross-shopping a 70 Series or a Pickup, you are not really cross-shopping a Patrol. The comparison only holds for the wagon.

Two of the three bodies sold here: the station wagon and the 70 Series hardtop. The Pickup is a third body again.

Engine choice: the clearest practical difference

Petrol is effectively the only engine on the used Patrol market; diesel Patrols are close to nonexistent. Land Cruiser wagon listings split across petrol, diesel and a smaller share of hybrid. Diesel Land Cruisers carry a premium used, pricing noticeably above petrol wagons of the same year. You are paying up front for lower running costs and longer range, which pays back on long desert and inter-emirate driving and does not pay back on a short city commute.

The Patrol range has also just changed shape. The newest listings include the twin-turbo V6 generation, priced at a premium to the V8 cars that still make up most of the used stock. If you specifically want the V8 Patrol, that is now a used-market decision rather than a showroom one.

Trim levels and what they cost used

Patrol trim

Median asking price

SE

AED 57,500

LE

AED 64,500

XE

AED 112,999

LE Titanium

AED 139,500

LE Platinum

AED 139,000

SE Platinum

AED 145,375

SE Titanium

AED 164,375

Super Safari

AED 180,000

LE Platinum City

AED 267,500

Land Cruiser trim

Median asking price

GXR

AED 190,000

VXR

AED 263,000

GR Sport

AED 329,999

VX

AED 350,000

Entry Patrol trims start far lower than anything in the Land Cruiser wagon range. A GCC-spec car was built for Gulf heat and roads and is the easier car to service, insure and resell here; our explainer on GCC spec versus non-GCC spec cars covers what actually differs. Location moves the price too: a meaningful share of listings for both models sit outside Dubai proper, and pricing outside the city tends to run lower for comparable cars. If you can travel to view, widen your search radius.

So which one should you buy?

Buy the Nissan Patrol if your budget is under AED 150,000 and you want the most SUV you can get for it. If you are buying to keep for five years or more, so the resale and running-cost gap matters less than the purchase price. If you want a V8, which now only exists on the used market. Or if you want the deepest choice under AED 100,000.

Buy the Toyota Land Cruiser if you change cars every two to three years, where the depreciation gap alone justifies the higher purchase price. If you want a diesel or hybrid, an option that effectively does not exist used on the Patrol side. If you want the lower fuel, insurance and long-run maintenance costs across a multi-year hold. Or if you do long-distance and off-road driving where range and parts availability outside the cities matter.

Before you buy either one, check these

Confirm GCC specs in writing, not just in the listing summary. Weigh mileage against year: Patrols commonly show 120,000 to 180,000 km by seven to ten years old, which is normal for the model but should be priced in. Ask for service history; on a Land Cruiser being sold at a premium for its reliability, an unbroken record is the thing you are paying for. Run an accident and fines check before money changes hands, and put the car through a proper used car inspection. Compare the same trim, not just the same model, since the gap between an SE and an LE Platinum Patrol of the same year is larger than the gap between many model years. And know what your current car is worth before you start negotiating, so you are not doing it blind.

You can see what is currently listed across the dealer network on used Nissan Patrol models in Dubai and used Toyota Land Cruiser models in Dubai, filtered by model year, mileage and budget.

Frequently asked questions

What is better, Land Cruiser or Patrol?
Neither is better outright; they are better at different things. The Land Cruiser is the stronger financial choice across a full ownership cycle, holding roughly 56% of its value at five years against the Patrol’s 43%, and costing less in fuel and insurance along the way. The Patrol is the better buy if you are purchasing used and holding long-term, because that same depreciation means you pay considerably less for the same model year, and the running-cost gap matters less the longer you keep the car.

Which SUV is better, Toyota or Nissan?
For full-size SUVs in the UAE, Toyota wins on resale value, fuel economy and engine choice; Nissan wins on price for money spent used and on availability at lower budgets. The Land Cruiser is available in petrol, diesel and hybrid on the used market; the used Patrol is almost entirely petrol.

Which is better, LC300 or Nissan Patrol?
Comparing recent model years, a 2023 Land Cruiser asks a median of AED 243,500 against AED 176,799 for a 2023 Patrol, a gap of about AED 67,000 for cars of the same age. The Land Cruiser returns more of that at resale and costs less to fuel. The Patrol asks less to get into.

How much is a used Nissan Patrol in Dubai?
Prices run from the high AED 30,000s for a high-mileage older SE up to the mid AED 400,000s for a 2026 model. The median across current listings sits in the AED 140,000 to 180,000 band, depending on year and trim.

How much is a used Land Cruiser in Dubai?
Land Cruiser wagon listings start in the mid AED 20,000s for early-2000s GXR models and reach into the mid AED 400,000s for a 2026 car. A ten-year-old example typically asks around AED 125,000.

Does the Nissan Patrol hold its value in the UAE?
Less well than the Land Cruiser. Measured against current new asking prices, the Patrol holds about 94% at one year, 54% at three years and 43% at five years. The Land Cruiser holds about 91%, 77% and 56% at the same ages.

Is the Patrol or Land Cruiser cheaper to run?
The Land Cruiser, on nearly every line. It uses less fuel per 100 km, insures for less per dirham of value, and its V6 has a stronger record of running high mileage without major repair bills. The Patrol’s running costs have narrowed with the move to a twin-turbo V6, but the older V8 cars that make up most of the used market still cost noticeably more to fuel and maintain.

How much below the asking price can I negotiate on a Patrol or Land Cruiser?
As a starting point, expect somewhere in the 7 to 13% range below asking, with premium SUVs typically landing toward the higher end once a listing has sat for a while or carries above-average mileage for its year. The exact room depends on the individual listing and how motivated the seller is, so use it as a benchmark going into a negotiation rather than a fixed number.

All prices in this article are asking prices from live UAE used-car listings, cross-checked across more than one point in the market, and will move as stock and rates change.

Rephrase in a different way as if you were a native American speaker as a content creation expert and do not talk about yourself or your experience in the text and do not show yourself as an artificial intelligence who wrote and fill the bullet point in the topic and speak the heart of the topic itself and dont take date of blog in ther first and dont take text like box of newsliter subscribe on post from content and romove all linke insert in content and and remove all affiliate disclosure phrases on content like this “This post may contain Amazon or other affiliate links that allow us to earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
