These tragic developments have contributed to over 500 fatalities across Southeast Asia due to the storm. Slow communications from affected areas have hampered accurate casualty reporting. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The ongoing civil war in Myanmar, which erupted in 2021 following the military&#8217;s takeover from the elected government, complicates the situation. Analysts note that the ruling military controls only a fraction of the country&#8217;s territory. Before Typhoon Yagi hit, it had already caused significant devastation in Vietnam, northern Thailand, and Laos, claiming almost 300 lives in Vietnam alone.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>In the Philippines, reports indicate that 21 people lost their lives due to the storm, with another 26 currently missing. The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has estimated that around 631,000 individuals may have been affected by flooding in Myanmar. Prior to the disaster, the UN refugee agency reported that 3.4 million people were already displaced due to ongoing conflicts.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The heavy rain brought by the typhoon and monsoon has led to extensive flash floods in central Myanmar, particularly affecting regions such as Mandalay, Magway, Bago, and the Ayeyarwaddy Delta. The eastern states of Shan, Kayah, Kayin, and Mon, as well as the capital Naypyitaw, have also been severely impacted. While some areas are starting to see receding water levels, critical conditions persist in parts of Shan and Kayah states.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Over 160,000 homes have suffered damage, prompting the establishment of 438 temporary relief camps to assist more than 160,000 flood victims. The military government has reported that nearly 240,000 individuals have been displaced due to the floods. Significant infrastructure damage includes 117 government offices, 1,040 schools, and numerous roads, bridges, and telecom towers. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Agricultural losses are substantial, with nearly 130,000 animals lost and over 259,000 hectares of farmland affected. The U.N.&#8217;s humanitarian agency has highlighted urgent needs for food, clean drinking water, medical supplies, clothing, hygiene kits, and shelter for flood victims.
