Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, chaired Wednesday a high-level virtual meeting dedicated to monitoring progress related to an electricity interconnection project between the Kingdom of Morocco and the French Republic.<\/p>\n
The meeting was held within the framework of implementing the provisions of the strategic energy cooperation partnership between the two countries, under the theme \u201cConnecting the Energy Transition between Morocco and France.\u201d<\/p>\n
This meeting marked an important milestone in the bilateral coordination process, with a particular focus on the mechanisms for data exchange essential to the implementation of this ambitious project, which is expected to serve as a strategic lever for achieving energy security and enhancing the integration of the two countries\u2019 power systems.<\/p>\n

The meeting brought together several officials from both sides, including G\u00e9rard Mestrallet, Special Envoy of French President Emmanuel Macron, and Xavier Piechaczyk, Chairman of the Executive Board of the French Transmission System Operator (RTE), along with representatives of the French Embassy in Rabat, the Moroccan National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), and the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN).<\/p>\n
Participants emphasized the importance of close cooperation and ongoing coordination between the relevant institutions, which strengthens the foundations of the strategic partnership and facilitates the transparent and efficient exchange of technical data and information, thereby accelerating the implementation of the project.<\/p>\n
This meeting took place as part of the activation of the strategic energy cooperation partnership between Morocco and France, which was signed on October 28, 2024, before His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, and the President of the French Republic, Mr. Emmanuel Macron.<\/p>\n
This multidimensional energy partnership aims to foster cooperation in areas such as energy policy, planning, regulation, renewable energy, electricity systems\u2014including generation and grids\u2014as well as low-carbon hydrogen production, energy storage, critical minerals, and molecule transmission, thereby strengthening the position of both countries as strategic hubs for energy transition at the regional and international levels.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
