While much of the output will serve global energy demand, both Senegal and Mauritania will retain a portion of the production for domestic use.<\/p>\n<p>BP leads the development alongside American company Kosmos Energy, Senegal\u2019s national oil company Petrosen, and Mauritania\u2019s Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures. The consortium began operations at the gas field in December 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The Greater Tortue Ahmeyim field holds an estimated 25 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
