Morocco has kept its position at number 120 out of 193 countries in the latest Human Development Index released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for 2025.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n While this means Morocco is still considered a country with high human development, it remains behind several neighboring and comparable countries like Algeria (96), Tunisia (105), and Libya (115), as well as Gabon (108) and Lebanon (102).<\/span><\/p>\n The report, published on Tuesday, shows that not much has changed for Morocco since last year\u2019s index. <\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n One key part of the report is the Multidimensional Poverty Index, which takes a broader look at poverty beyond just income.<\/span><\/p>\n According to the data, 6.4% of Moroccans were living in multidimensional poverty between 2012 and 2023. Even more striking, the intensity of deprivation, which measures how many basic needs are unmet, could reach as high as 42% in those affected.<\/span><\/p>\n When it comes to gender equality, Morocco didn\u2019t fare well. The country was placed in the fifth and lowest group in terms of gender development, with a score of 0.859, highlighting ongoing inequality between men and women in access to resources and opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n On a global scale, Iceland took the number one spot in this year\u2019s index, followed by Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, and Germany.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n At the bottom of the list were countries facing severe crises, including South Sudan, the Central African Republic, Somalia, Chad, Niger, and Mali.<\/span><\/p>\n This year\u2019s report also zoomed in on the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on human development.
