ITA Airways (AZ\/ITY)<\/span> is Italy\u2019s national flag carrier, founded in October 2020 following the financial collapse of Alitalia, the long-standing but long-struggling Italian airline. Officially known as Italia Trasporto Aereo S.p.A., ITA commenced operations in October 2021, inheriting many of Alitalia’s routes, aircraft, and even its frequent flyer program. Though legally a distinct entity, ITA Airways draws inspiration from Alitalia’s iconic branding, adopting a livery that pays homage to Italy\u2019s national colors and aviation heritage. Positioned as a more sustainable and efficient successor, ITA aims to rebuild the reputation of Italian aviation with a modernized fleet and streamlined business model.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lufthansa Group has taken a 41% stake in ITA Airways, making ITA a part of the Lufthansa Group. This integration includes a move by ITA to join the Star Alliance in the first half of 2026, having previously been a member of SkyTeam. The integration also involves ITA co-locating with Lufthansa Group carriers at Frankfurt and Munich, and reciprocal benefits for frequent flyer programs like Volare and Miles & More. The fleet comprises a mix of widebody, narrowbody, and regional jets. The majority of the fleet is made up of narrowbodies. All but two of ITA\u2019s aircraft are leased and Irish registered. The only two Italian registered aircraft in the fleet are <\/span>I-ADVG<\/span> and <\/span>I-ADVH<\/span>, both Airbus A220-100s. Narrowbodies<\/span><\/h3>\n

The newest narrowbody in the ITA Airways fleet is <\/span>EI-HXG<\/span>, an Airbus A321neo built in June 2024. Based in <\/span>Rome (FCO)<\/span><\/a> this aircraft operates up to 5 flights daily to destinations including <\/span>Madrid (MAD)<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Accra (ACC) <\/span><\/a>and <\/span>Riyadh (RUH)<\/span><\/a>. This aircraft is closely followed by <\/span>EI-HON<\/span>, another A321neo built in the same month, but delivered to the airline slightly later.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n

The newest A220-300 in the fleet is <\/span>EI-HHW<\/span>, which was built in May 2025. This aircraft was flown from Montreal to Rome on June 6, 2025 and went on to operate its first revenue flight to <\/span>Genoa (GOA) <\/span><\/a>later the same day. Closely following this aircraft is <\/span>EI-HHU<\/span>, which was built in February of the same year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Looking at the shorter Airbus A220-100, the newest airframe is <\/span>I-ADVH<\/span> (one of the two Italian registered jets we mentioned earlier). Built in April 2025, this aircraft operates to airports including <\/span>Amsterdam (AMS)<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Paris (CDG)<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>London (LCY) <\/span><\/a>from its base in <\/span>Milan (LIN)<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n
