Canada\u2019s<\/strong> first Boeing 737-200<\/strong> was acquired in November 1968<\/strong> by Pacific Western Airlines,<\/strong> an airline that had begun operations in the 1940s,<\/strong> with Vancouver International Airport<\/strong> as its main hub. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-275,<\/strong> performed its first flight on November 16th, 1968,<\/strong> and was incorporated 10 days later.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On December 17th, 1968, Pacific Western Airlines<\/strong> operated its first scheduled flight<\/strong> with this Boeing 737-200,<\/strong> registered CF-PWD,<\/strong> on the \u201cStampeder Service\u201d<\/strong> connecting Alberta<\/strong> and British Columbia.<\/strong> This was the first regular flight of a 737 in Canada.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A few days later, CP<\/strong> Air, <\/b>another carrier founded in the <\/span>1940s, <\/b>whose original name was<\/span> Canadian Pacific Air Lines and renamed CP Air in July 1968,<\/b> introduced Canada\u2019s second Boeing 737-200. As well as Canada\u2019s first 737, this aircraft <\/span>was produced at Seattle Boeing Field,<\/b> making its <\/span>first test flight on November 25th, 1968<\/b>. I<\/span>t departed for Vancouver International Airport in December 1968,<\/b> and commenced regular operations <\/span>in early 1969.<\/b><\/p>\n

On <\/span>March 15th, 1970, Transair, a Canadian airline based in Winnipeg, added its first Boeing 737-200 to its fleet.<\/b> The 737, registered as <\/span>CF-TAO<\/b>, arrived in <\/span>Canada in April 1970 and operated for Transair until late 1979.<\/b> Pacific Western Airlines <\/b>began talks to <\/span>purchase Transair,<\/b> which was facing financial difficulties and suffering significant losses. Finally, on <\/span>December 1st, 1979, Pacific Western completed the acquisition of Transair, ending its operations after 23 years.<\/b><\/p>\n

In addition to <\/span>Pacific Western Airlines, CP Air,<\/b> and Transair<\/b>, <\/span>Air Canada, Astoria, Canada 3000 Airlines, Canadian International Airlines, Canadian North, Canjet Airlines, Chrono Aviation, Eastern Provincial Airlines, First Air, Inter-Canadien, Kelowna Flightcraft, Noranda Mines, Nordair, Quebecair, Royal Airlines, Vacationair, Vistajet, WestJet,<\/b> and <\/span>Zip<\/b> were some of the operators of the <\/span>Boeing 737-200 in Canada<\/b>, with <\/span>CP Air leading the list<\/b>, having operated these aircraft between <\/span>1968 and 1987.<\/b><\/p>\n

Air Canada added several Boeing 737-200s in 2001<\/b>, following the acquisition of <\/span>Canadian International Airlines<\/b>. These aircraft had previously operated with <\/span>CP Air <\/b>and<\/span> Canadian Airlines<\/b>, flying within <\/span>Canada <\/b>and the <\/span>United States for about 30 years.<\/b><\/p>\n

Despite being in operation for more than 50 years, the <\/span>Boeing 737-200 continues in service with some Canadian airlines.<\/b> Its operations are<\/span> focused on gravel runways,<\/b> which are <\/span>common at several Canadian airports<\/b>, especially in <\/span>northern Canada<\/b>, as the <\/span>737-200 is certified for this type of operation.<\/b> At the same time, these aircraft also serve major Canadian airports, such as <\/span>Montreal\u2019s Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport and Toronto\u2019s Pearson Airport,<\/b> among others, <\/span>flying to\/from airports with paved runways.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to our database, <\/span>12 Boeing 737-200s are currently active between four different Canadian airlines<\/b>. <\/span>Nolinor Aviation is the main operator,<\/b> followed by <\/span>Air Inuit, Glencore Canada and Buffalo Airways.<\/b> Almost all of their operations in <\/span>northern Canada are on gravel runways,<\/b> with <\/span>Cambridge Bay<\/b> (YCB\/CYCB), <\/span>Goose Lake<\/b>, <\/span>Kattiniq <\/b>(YAU \/ CTP9), <\/span>Meadowbank<\/b>, <\/span>Resolute <\/b>(YRB\/CYRB) and <\/span>Taloyoak <\/b>(YYH\/CYYH) being some of these.<\/span><\/p>\n
