The National Observatory for Strategic Studies has called on Morocco\u2019s partner and allied states to launch legislative initiatives within their parliaments to classify the Polisario Front as a terrorist organization.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0In a statement released Monday, the body urged these countries to adopt legal frameworks that criminalize the group\u2019s activities and cut off its sources of support.<\/span><\/p>\n The Observatory warned of what it described as security threats posed by the Polisario, citing \u201csystematic attacks on civilians, involvement in arms and drug trafficking networks, recruitment of children, and coordination with terrorist groups operating in the Sahel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The statement praised a recent initiative in the US Congress to introduce a bill designating the Polisario as a terrorist entity, calling it a constructive step aligned with international efforts to combat terrorism and counter foreign-backed separatist movements.<\/span><\/p>\n Mohamed Tayyar, president of the Observatory, said that securing legislative moves worldwide to classify the Polisario as terrorist has intertwined legal, political, security, and diplomatic benefits.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Legally, such recognition by foreign parliaments or governments would bolster Morocco\u2019s position with external legislative backing. It would also enable those states to apply counterterrorism laws, including freezing the group\u2019s assets, banning its activities, and restricting the travel of its leaders, making any cooperation with the group a punishable offense.<\/span><\/p>\n From a security standpoint, Tayyar noted that the designation would restrict the group\u2019s cross-border movements and disrupt its logistical networks.
