American designer Tory Burch recently presented a collection that captures the essence of sport without directly entering the realm of sportswear at New York Fashion Week, featuring the French-Algerian model Loli Bahia on the runway.
The collection emphasized freedom and movement, showcased through relaxed wool trousers and flowing wrap dresses. Empowerment was evident in the variety of styles, fabrics, and cuts that adorned the models who showcased the pieces.
Bahia turned heads in a striking black outfit characterized by asymmetrical cuts and overlapping panels, creating a contemporary, deconstructed look. The top featured a wrap-like design with subtle front ties, while the high-slit skirt added to the ensemble’s allure. This outfit, part of the Spring/Summer 2025 collection, was accessorized with bold, oversized earrings and classic black peep-toe heels.
Joining Bahia was Mona Tougaard, whose diverse heritage includes Danish, Turkish, Somali, and Ethiopian roots. She impressed in a sleeveless cropped black top with a V-neck, complemented by a voluminous white skirt adorned with layers and ruffles, highlighted by gentle draping and soft pleats. Her neutral-toned open-toe heels and sleek hairstyle completed the look.
Notable highlights from the collection featured ultra-light suede pants paired with a rope belt and a form-fitting, red-and-white patterned sweater. A transparent white jersey shirt with ruffles and extended sleeves was styled with brown wool pants, blending formal elements with contemporary design.
With this latest collection, Burch shifted away from her established preppy New England and bohemian aesthetic. Emphasizing the “spirit and essence of sport,” she noted that her vision was rooted in concepts of movement, freedom, and precision, underlining the idea of “synchronicity.” Burch aimed to balance different textures and colors in her designs, avoiding an overload of prints while celebrating the 20th anniversary of her fashion label.
