KUWAIT CITY, Aug 20: Acting Hawally Traffic Director Colonel Bader Al-Khalifa confirmed that the new decision allows the tinting of all vehicles, except the windshield, up to 50 percent regardless of the tinting percentage provided by the car dealership — whether 10 percent, 20 percent, or 30 percent. In a televised interview, Al-Khalifa explained that if the dealership’s tint is 30 percent, the car owner may add 50 percent, bringing the total tint to 80 percent. He also revealed there has been a remarkable decrease in the number of traffic violations and accidents resulting in deaths.
He said the traffic accidents resulting in deaths decreased by 75 percent in June, compared to the same month in the previous year — a goal that the Ministry of Interior is striving to achieve. In a related development, the Traffic Awareness Unit at the General Traffic Department affirmed that in line with the commitment of the ministry to facilitate traffic procedures, update regulations in the interest of road users, and maintain safety and security standards, the ministry permitted window tinting of up to 50 percent, provided the windshield remains completely transparent. The ministry stressed that any form of protection or tint on the windshield is strictly prohibited, as well as the use of reflective glass or any other type of tinting. This decision is an amendment to the previously established rate, which required revision in light of current circumstances and public needs, while ensuring that vehicle user safety is not compromised. The ministry once again urged all drivers to adhere to the new regulations and avoid violations for their safety and to prevent legal accountability. The newspaper previously published the new regulations governing vehicle tinting percentages, which were issued last Sunday.

Meanwhile, a security source explained to the newspaper that the total permissible tinting percentage for vehicles with factory-installed tinted windows previously reached 70 percent. Under the new resolution, this figure now increases to 80 percent. The source elaborated that, for example, if a vehicle leaves the dealership with a tinting percentage ranging from 10 percent to 30 percent, an additional 50 percent may now be added according to the new resolution. This brings the total tint percentage to 80 percent, if the dealership’s original tint is 30 percent. He clarified that under the previous regulation, the total permissible percentage was 70 percent, so if tinting at the dealership was 30 percent and an additional 40 percent was allowed, the total was 70 percent
