The Versailles Court of Appeal has upheld a decision referring the case involving Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi to the Hauts-de-Seine criminal court, clearing the way for the footballer to stand trial on a rape charge, according to France24.
The case stems from an allegation made in February 2023 by a 24-year-old woman whose identity has not been publicly disclosed. Hakimi has repeatedly denied the accusation, saying it is false.
The ruling came hours before Morocco’s 2026 FIFA World Cup match against Scotland on Friday.
Shortly after the ruling, Hakimi posted a statement on X saying he had waited for the trial from the beginning.
“Finally, I will be able to speak,” he wrote.
Hakimi said he had chosen to remain silent for years and trust the justice system.
“I thought that staying dignified, being patient, and trusting the justice system would allow the right decisions to be made,” he said.
No trial date has been set.
The PSG fullback is one of Morocco’s most prominent players and a key figure in the national team during the World Cup.
