Morocco and Turkey are getting ready to put their latest trade negotiations into action, with both sides preparing agreements that aim to shrink the wide gap in their trade balance.
Sources told Hespress AR that the two countries have already agreed on several steps, and now they are moving toward formalizing them.
According to the sources , Turkey’s Minister of Trade, Ömer Bolat, is expected to visit Morocco at the start of 2026. His trip will focus on signing new agreements and attending the launch of upcoming Turkish investments in Morocco.
This comes after last weekend’s investment forum in Istanbul, where Moroccan officials met about 400 Turkish companies and investors.
Around 70 Moroccan companies also took part, discussing opportunities in a variety of sectors.
The meeting delivered some concrete results, especially in convincing Turkish businesses to shift part of their production to Morocco instead of exporting ready-made goods.
Sources say the Moroccan delegation managed to secure commitments from several Turkish textile manufacturers to set up projects inside Morocco.
Instead of importing Turkish-made clothing and textiles, the plan is to produce more of it locally, helping reduce the trade deficit and strengthen Morocco’s industry.
The talks also included meetings with prominent Moroccan investors already based in Turkey. Many of them, especially those working in textiles, reportedly expressed interest in bringing their business back home and reinvesting in Morocco.
As for agriculture, Morocco has already handed Turkey a list of Moroccan farm products that will receive priority access to the Turkish market.
The list is currently being reviewed, and the final version is expected to be ready for signing next month.
Officials are avoiding mentioning specific products for now to prevent any pushback from Turkish producers.
Hespress had previously reported details of the negotiations, which aim to limit the growing trade deficit between Rabat and Ankara.
Both countries have been looking for balanced solutions to strengthen their cooperation under the free trade agreement they have shared since 2004.
Morocco’s imports from Turkey continue to rise sharply. In 2024, they reached MAD 39 billion, while Moroccan exports to Turkey stood at just MAD 11.6 billion, a clear imbalance that Rabat wants to narrow.
