Morocco’s domestic tourism generated more than four million overnight stays as of the end of May 2026, a 2% increase from the same period in 2025, according to Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP).
Speaking during an oral question session at the Upper House, Morocco’s Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, said on Tuesday that domestic tourism accounted for 28% of all overnight stays recorded in 2025, describing Moroccan travelers as a key pillar of the tourism sector.
Ammor said providing tourism products that meet the needs of Moroccan travelers is a key priority in developing domestic tourism. She added that the 2023–2026 tourism roadmap includes two thematic areas dedicated to this objective: nature-based tourism and beach tourism.
The minister added that domestic tourism also benefits from five cross-cutting initiatives focused on Moroccan cuisine and local products, festivals and cultural events, handicrafts and local skills, alternative accommodation, and sustainable development.
She said the government seeks to make domestic tourism a year-round activity that benefits all regions of the country, rather than being concentrated during the summer season or limited to a small number of destinations.
To achieve this goal, the ministry is working to expand accommodation capacity, encourage tourism investment across Morocco, support leisure and entertainment projects, improve air connectivity and promotion efforts, strengthen the legal framework governing tourism professions, and enhance workforce training, she said.
