The Jordan Football Association appointed Moroccan Badou Zaki as head coach of the men’s national football team Sunday, tasking him with leading the squad through upcoming competitions, including the 2027 AFC Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia, according to Morocco’s local broadcast SNRT.
The federation said its board, chaired by Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, approved Zaki’s appointment on a one-year contract after accepting the resignations of head coach Jamal Sellami and his coaching staff.
The federation said it will formally present Zaki at a later date and announce his technical staff based on his recommendations.
Zaki ranks among the most prominent figures in Moroccan football history. He starred as a goalkeeper for Morocco and helped the national team reach the round of 16 at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. He also won the African Footballer of the Year award in 1986 and played professionally for Spain’s Real Mallorca.
As a coach, Zaki led Morocco to the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations final and has managed several Moroccan clubs, as well as the national teams of Sudan and Niger.
