Moroccans consumed significantly more internet data during the first quarter of 2026, with average monthly data usage per customer rising 48% year-on-year to 60 gigabytes, according to the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT).
The average revenue generated by operators fell to MAD 0.73 (excluding tax) per gigabyte, reflecting the continued decline in the cost of data services.
Morocco’s digital subscriber base continued to expand. Total internet subscriptions reached 41.08 million by the end of March, up 3.05% from a year earlier, bringing internet penetration to 111.54% of the population.
Mobile internet remained the primary means of access, accounting for 38.1 million subscriptions, an annual increase of 2.91%.
The report also points to the rapid expansion of newer internet technologies. Morocco counted 3.22 million 5G users at the end of the first quarter, supported by nearly 8,400 base stations, while the number of 4G users reached 33.07 million.
Fixed broadband also posted strong growth. Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) subscriptions approached 1.5 million, posting a 32.68% increase from a year earlier.
Nearly 60% of fiber connections offered speeds exceeding 50 Mbps. Meanwhile, the ADSL subscriber base stood at 1.4 million, with almost 98% of connections delivering speeds above 12 Mbps.
