The Moroccan caftan, in all its splendor, took center stage on Monday evening during an exclusive fashion show held as part of the inaugural Arab Week at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
The collection, designed by Hind Lamtiri, dazzled the international audience with its chic and sophisticated appeal. The Moroccan stylist’s creations, blending traditional elegance with modern flair, left the crowd in awe, showcasing her undeniable talent that continues to captivate both connoisseurs of haute couture and fans of Morocco’s rich cultural heritage.
Speaking to the Maghreb Arab Press (MAP) after her runway show, Lamtiri described the collection as “rich, featuring various types of embroidery, craftsmanship from the maalem (master artisans), and exquisite fabrics.”
Deeply moved by the warm reception, Lamtiri expressed her pride in presenting her collection at UNESCO in front of such a prestigious audience, including several diplomats accredited to the United Nations cultural organization, notably Samir Addahre, the Permanent Representative of Morocco to UNESCO.
“It’s an immense pride and an honor far beyond merely showcasing a garment,” Lamtiri said. “This is an opportunity to introduce the world to a symbol deeply rooted in Moroccan history and culture — an object that embodies the expertise, patience, and talent of Moroccan artisans.”
For Lamtiri, the caftan is “a symbol of identity, tradition, and modernity,” and presenting it at UNESCO, an institution dedicated to preserving and promoting cultures, represents “recognition of its universal value.”
She sees this as a chance to “make a part of Morocco’s soul shine — a living treasure that continues to unite and inspire generations.”
The first edition of Arab Week at UNESCO, organized by the Arab Group of UNESCO with the support of Saudi Arabia, showcases various aspects of Moroccan culture, including tangible and intangible heritage, music, gastronomy, calligraphy, fashion, and the arts.
Lamtiri’s caftan fashion show was a highlight of the event’s opening day, which culminated in a memorable Tarab Al Alaconcert performed by the Young Moroccan Andalusian Music Ambassadors in France.
The event also featured a series of conferences, including talks on Moroccan calligraphy and artificial intelligence, further celebrating the richness and diversity of Arab culture.
Arab Week at UNESCO aims to strengthen the status of Arab culture within the United Nations organization, foster new partnerships between Arab countries, UNESCO, and other member states, and promote intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding.
