Morocco is taking part in the 75th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale February 13-23), showcasing the prestige of national cinema and its ever-growing influence on the international scene.
Morocco is represented at this major event by a high-level delegation, led by the acting director of the Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM) Abdelaziz El Boujdaini, and made up of professionals and players in the sector, with the aim of promoting Moroccan cinema, strengthening partnerships and exploring new co-production horizons, according to a CCM press release.
On this occasion, the CCM has set up, for the first time, a special pavilion at the “European Film Market” to display Morocco’s potential as a film production destination, with its rich natural potential and modern infrastructure.
The pavilion also showcases the Kingdom’s incentives, in particular the CASH REBATE system, which reimburses 30% of expenses for foreign productions shot in Morocco.
The Moroccan delegation held meetings with international counterparts to discuss prospects for film cooperation and attract new production projects, the release notes, adding that this initiative is part of a strategy to increase the presence of Moroccan cinema and take advantage of international experiences to strengthen the sector’s competitiveness.
Director Nabil Ayouch was selected as a member of the festival’s official jury, confirming the status of Moroccan cinema at major events such as the Cannes Film Festival, the Venice Film Festival and the Oscars.
