Morocco’s team Coach Walid Regragui described Tuesday the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 (AFCON) semifinal against Nigeria as “a final before its time.”
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Regragui said, “It has been a long time since Morocco reached the AFCON semifinals. “We will play a strong and consistent team, and we hope to reach the final,” he said.
The coach added that Nigeria has “talented players and a deep bench,” but the Atlas Lions need to stay mentally strong, prevent them from gaining momentum, and maintain a technical and athletic edge. “It will be a good test for both teams,” he added.
Regragui highlighted Morocco’s progress since the group stage, noting that players such as Hamza Igamane, Achraf Hakimi, and Brahim Díaz have steadily regained form. He also said Nigeria, coming off a World Cup exit, will be focused on achieving a positive result in the AFCON.
“The semifinal of this year’s AFCON features some of Africa’s top players, including African Ballon d’Or winners,” he said, calling it “the best showcase of football in Africa.”
Moroccan goalkeeper Munir El Kajoui said he is satisfied with reaching the semifinals. “We are ready mentally, physically, and tactically to beat one of Africa’s best teams,” he said.
The whole team is on the same page, according to El Kajoui, “Every player understands the importance of this match to reach the final and move closer to the continental title.”
The Morocco-Nigeria match will take place on Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. local time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
