Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Mehdi Bensaid said Monday that cinema revenue in Morocco reached 127 million dirhams in 2024, a significant increase from 89 million dirhams in 2023.
Speaking during the weekly oral questions session in the House of Representatives, Bensaid revealed that 2.2 million spectators attended cinemas in 2024.
He also highlighted the opening of several new cinema halls across various Moroccan cities, including a new cinema complex in Casablanca. However, he acknowledged the challenges of opening cinemas in smaller and medium-sized cities.
Bensaid emphasized that the figures demonstrate the health of Moroccan cinema, noting that they also reflect the growing economic promotion of national productions. For the first time, international cinema production in Morocco reached 1.5 billion dirhams in 2024.
He concluded by pointing out that this success showcases the vibrant and dynamic growth of the Moroccan film industry, which encourages further investment, particularly in open studios in the city of Ouarzazate.
