Morocco’s National Ports Agency (ANP) said the Port of Casablanca has reduced congestion by nearly 50% after introducing a series of operational measures to ease pressure on vessel traffic, according to Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP).
The agency said the port has faced operational challenges since December 2025, including 38 days of closures caused by heavy swells and rainfall, an operational incident in February 2026, and increased imports of grain, animal feed, and industrial equipment.
ANP said Casablanca handles 60% of Morocco’s grain imports and 70% of its animal feed imports, making the port central to national supply chains.
The agency said it strengthened vessel monitoring, optimized berth allocation, accelerated cargo evacuation, and improved coordination with terminal operators and local authorities. It also prioritized vessels carrying empty containers and essential bulk commodities.
ANP said container and roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessel waiting times have returned to normal, while delays for bulk carriers, especially grain and animal feed ships, continue to decline.
The agency said several expansion projects involving RoRo vessels are expected to strengthen the port’s long-term capacity, including container terminal developments that will increase annual capacity to about 2.2 million TEUs by 2030, up from approximately 1.3 million today.
