Moroccan international footballer Eliesse Ben Seghir signed with Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Sunday, committing to the Bundesliga until 2030, the club announced on its website. The 20-year-old midfielder leaves AS Monaco after two and a half seasons to begin a new chapter in the Bundesliga.
“La Bundesliga is very different from Ligue 1. It’s particularly exciting and I look forward to discovering it,” Ben Seghir said in a statement released by Bayer Leverkusen, the club founded in 1904 and fresh off a domestic double in the 2023-24 season.
Sporting director Simon Rolfes described Ben Seghir as “a top-class technician, creative and intelligent in his dribbling, with precise and open passes.” Rolfes said he expects the Moroccan playmaker to add quality to Leverkusen’s attack.
“Eliesse can play on the wings, but also in the center. He is unpredictable and a valuable addition to our team. We are happy to see him play for Bayer 04,” Rolfes said.
Ben Seghir trained with Monaco between 2020 and 2022 before signing his first professional contract in early 2023.
His move to Germany comes as Leverkusen reshapes its squad after losing several key players in last season’s core, including Lukas Hradecky, Jonathan Tah, Granit Xhaka, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Amine Adli.
