The British leader in geoscience, Getech, and Morocco’s Sound Energy, a transition-focused energy company, have announced a strategic partnership to explore Morocco’s promising natural hydrogen and helium resources.
In a press release published Monday, Getech said that under the terms of the Exploration Collaboration Agreement, the two companies will collaborate on a joint regional screening study to identify areas of interest for further exploration.
Getech will leverage its advanced geoscience platform, Globe™, and machine learning algorithms to analyze Morocco’s geological data, while Sound Energy will contribute its extensive operational expertise and in-country knowledge.
“We are excited to partner with Sound Energy to unlock the potential of natural hydrogen and helium in Morocco,” said Richard Bennett, CEO of Getech.
“Our advanced geoscience solutions will play a crucial role in driving cost-effective exploration in this promising region,” Bennett added.
John Argent, VP Geoscience at Sound Energy, said that this partnership with Getech is a significant step forward in our strategy to expand into new transition energy resources.
“By combining our expertise and resources, we aim to lead the way in exploring Morocco’s hydrogen and helium potential,” Argent said.
According to the press release, Morocco’s favorable geological conditions and strategic location make it an attractive destination for natural hydrogen exploration.
Morocco’s extensive onshore basins, rich in subsurface resources, offer significant potential for discoveries.
The country’s commitment to renewable energy and supportive regulatory framework further enhance its position as a key player in the global energy transition.
Natural hydrogen, also known as “white” or “gold” hydrogen, is a clean and sustainable energy source that can be produced without carbon emissions.
Getech’s advanced workflows, based on the understanding of genetic factors involved in natural hydrogen systems, will help identify potential resource-rich areas.
Helium, a critical raw material essential for various industries, is often found in association with natural hydrogen. The discovery of both resources in Morocco could have significant economic and strategic implications for the country.
