Morocco’s government has approved a decree granting special monthly allowances of 500 dirhams ($52) to orphans and abandoned children residing in licensed social care institutions, the cabinet announced on Dec. 23, 2025.
The measure, issued under Article 16 of Law 58.23 on the social direct support system, will be managed by the National Agency for Social Support in coordination with the Ministries of Interior, Economy and Finance, and Solidarity, Social Integration and Family.
Officials said a dedicated digital platform has been established to process applications and handle complaints, ensuring transparency and proper governance. Directors of social care institutions will play a key role in submitting and tracking requests.
The monthly allowance will be deposited into a bank account opened in each child’s name at the Deposit and Management Fund. Authorities note that if the support is provided consistently over 15 years, the accumulated capital could exceed 100,000 dirhams by the time the child reaches adulthood.
Beneficiaries can access the full amount only upon reaching the legal age of majority. Withdrawals prior to adulthood are prohibited. The law also stipulates that the special allowance cannot be combined with other child protection or supplementary orphan support benefits provided to families.
Officials described the program as a crucial financial support measure aimed at helping orphans and abandoned children gain independence and facilitate social and professional integration in the future.
