Marrakesh. Jama el Fnaa. The main square. Monkeys. Veiled henna artists. Lamp sellers. Snake charmers. Mouthwatering nougat. Countless stands offering dinners. Even more offering orange juice. High walls of the old city. A tiny alley leading to the heart of medina. 2 minute walk among little shops and we are there. Sherazade. An old, Moroccan riad transfered into a hotel (but still kept in this amazing, traditional, Moroccan style).
I am welcomed by a smiling receptionist “room number 20, a very beautiful one”. We go right, upstairs, left, upstairs… We pass a terrace under a thousand-star sky, we disappear under a roof of roses, we turn right and continue downstairs. Room number 20 is in the end of a beautifully decorated corridor. Indeed, it is a very nice room.

In the morning I am waken up by the sound of fountain, birds and bees. Such a nice alternative to the noise of a crowded city of Casablanca! There is something magical about medina of Marrakesh; it is a getaway to escape the big city life and still be close to the center, main attractions and places worth visiting. Location – one of many advantages of Sherazade.
Sherazade is an old Moroccan riad and has over 20 rooms to choose from. Each one is extraordinary and has its soul! (My personal choices are room number 2, 8 and 21). They all have one thing in common: they are all held in traditional, Moroccan style.
Prices vary from 20 to 50 euros. You can have a luxury suite with an amazing bathroom or a little room on the rooftop with shared utilities. Sherazade is a place for everybody!
There is something I hate about hotels. Being anonymous. In Sherazade it is not the case! Only the second day the staff calls me by my name. They smile and ask how I feel. There are hundreds of places to sit down, relax, read a book and make you forget that you’re in a hotel!
Another thing that makes you feel like with your family and friends is home-made jams made by the owner, Sabina. For the dinner you can order whatever you wish and it will be prepared especially for you. There are many Moroccan dishes to choose from. Ask at the reception:)
If I was to summarize Sherazade in few words, I’d say: perfect place to be for those who want to experience real Moroccan hospitality, escape from chain hotels and wish to be close to the main attractions of Marrakesh!
Review prepared in collaboration with the hotel. I was hosted by the hotel in exchange for presenting the place among my Readers. Opinions and photos are my own and nobody has influenced them.

Comparing places to sleep in the Red City? My best riads in Marrakech, tested by budget – and once you’re settled, the street-food tour of Jemaa el-Fna is downstairs.
