Italian engineering firm SITE has secured two major contracts totaling EUR 140 million with Morocco’s national railway operator ONCF to develop critical systems for the country’s expanding high-speed rail network, converging reports indicate.
The agreement positions SITE as the primary systems integrator for the new 400-kilometer Kenitra-Marrakech corridor, a cornerstone infrastructure project ahead of Morocco’s co-hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
The comprehensive scope of work encompasses the design and implementation of advanced telecommunications systems, among others. SITE will also deliver complete power systems solutions and implement robust cybersecurity architecture across all operational components.
This strategic partnership builds on SITE’s collaboration with a consortium led by French firm, Compagnie des Signaux, combining international expertise to deliver Morocco’s rail modernization program.
The Kenitra-Marrakech line constitutes an important component of the nation’s ambitious plan to develop 1,300 km of high-speed track and expand rail access to 43 cities by 2030, potentially serving 87% of Morocco’s population.
The new corridor will significantly enhance connectivity between major transport hubs, including Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport, and key World Cup venues such as Marrakech’s stadiums. This development continues Morocco’s successful rail expansion that began with the Al-Boraq line, Africa’s first high-speed rail service launched in 2018 using French TGV technology.
