Morocco and France will reconvene the Moroccan-French High Joint Commission in Rabat next week after a seven-year hiatus, building on renewed diplomatic momentum following France’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces.
Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch and French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu will co-chair the meeting. The French delegation will include about 10 ministers, making it one of France’s largest government visits to Morocco in recent years.
The two governments are expected to sign between eight and 10 agreements covering investment, digital transformation, energy, mining, transportation, and other areas of economic cooperation.
The meeting is also expected to pave the way for a new strategic partnership agreement between Rabat and Paris. During his October 2024 visit to Morocco, French President Emmanuel Macron said the accord would become France’s first strategic partnership agreement of its kind with a country outside the European Union.
Officials will also discuss expanding French investment in Morocco, particularly in infrastructure linked to the 2030 FIFA World Cup, as well as cooperation in renewable energy, electricity interconnections, digital transformation, defense, innovation, and emerging energy technologies.
