Morocco raised its statutory corporate income tax rate to 35% in 2026, making it one of the countries with the highest corporate tax rates worldwide, according to a new report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
The OECD’s Corporate Tax Statistics 2026 report says Morocco was one of only four jurisdictions, out of 146 surveyed, to increase its statutory corporate income tax rate this year, alongside South Korea, Lithuania and San Marino. Morocco’s rate rose by one percentage point, from 34% to 35%.
The increase places Morocco alongside Colombia and Malta, which also levy corporate income tax at 35%. France ranks slightly higher at 36.1%.
The OECD notes, however, that France’s rate includes a temporary exceptional surcharge introduced in 2026. No similar qualification accompanies Morocco’s rate, indicating that the kingdom’s 35% rate is considered its standard statutory corporate income tax rather than a temporary measure.
Morocco’s corporate tax rate also stands well above global and regional averages.
According to the report, it is nearly 14 percentage points higher than the global average of 21.2% and almost 11 percentage points above the OECD average of 24.2%.
It also exceeds Africa’s average statutory corporate tax rate of 26.6%, as well as the averages for Latin America and the Caribbean (21.1%) and the Asia-Pacific region (20.6%).
The report comes as corporate tax rates have largely stabilized worldwide following decades of steady declines.
The OECD said the global average has remained unchanged at 21.2% since 2020 after falling from 28% in 2000 to 21.5% in 2019.
Changes to corporate tax rates were rare this year.
Besides the four jurisdictions that increased their rates, only three lowered them. Honduras reduced its corporate tax rate by five percentage points, while Cape Verde and Portugal each cut theirs by one percentage point. The remaining jurisdictions left their rates unchanged.
High corporate tax rates remain relatively uncommon globally, according to the report.
Only 25 of the 146 jurisdictions surveyed levy statutory corporate income tax rates of 30% or more. The largest group, comprising 74 jurisdictions, applies rates between 20% and 30%, while 33 jurisdictions impose rates between 10% and 20%.
At the lower end of the scale, just 14 jurisdictions have statutory corporate tax rates below 10%. Among them, only Barbados, Hungary and the United Arab Emirates levy positive rates below 10%, with each applying a 9% corporate income tax.
