Morocco’s Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, announced on Tuesday that 35 cities will benefit from development projects ahead of the Kingdom’s joint hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
Speaking at the Lower House, Baraka said that the World Cup presents a historic opportunity for Morocco’s development. “This landmark event will not only benefit the major cities hosting the matches but also extend to surrounding towns,” he said.
Infrastructure improvements are central to these plans. The minister detailed ongoing projects to enhance road networks to reduce traffic congestion in host cities and nearby areas where World Cup training facilities will be located.
A key feature of the plan includes the construction of the Grand Stade Hassan II in Benslimane, near Casablanca set to be a state-of-the-art facility for the tournament. Additionally, Morocco is advancing work on a continental highway connecting Rabat and Casablanca, with completion expected by 2029.
Baraka said Morocco’s commitment to “ensuring a successful World Cup while laying the groundwork for sustainable development.”
