Brazilian football star Neymar told Cazé TV on Friday that he may retire at the end of the 2026 season.
The 34-year-old, who currently plays for Santos, said he is focused on trying to feature at the 2026 World Cup with Brazil but has not decided on his future beyond this year.
“I don’t know what will happen in the future… maybe in December I’ll feel like retiring,” Neymar said. “I’m living day by day now. This year is very important for Santos and for Brazil’s team because it’s a World Cup year. It’s a big challenge for me.”
Neymar returned to Santos about a year ago, nearly 12 years after leaving the club for Barcelona, following an injury-hit spell at Paris Saint-Germain and a brief stint with Saudi side Al-Hilal.
Since January 2025, recurring fitness problems have limited his availability. The Brazilian international footballer has played 29 matches in that period, scoring 11 goals and providing five assists while spending nearly 200 days sidelined due to injury.
Santos recently extended Neymar’s contract through December 2026. The forward is Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 79 goals in 128 appearances.
