French club Olympique de Marseille has confirmed that Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd will miss the remainder of the season to return to Morocco to continue his recovery.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the French club said Aguerd has been allowed to leave Marseille to continue his medical treatment in coordination with the Moroccan national team’s medical staff.
The player has been dealing with a pubalgia injury that has limited his appearances this season. He had surgery in March and played only a few matches for Marseille.
“Nayef Aguerd will return to Morocco to continue his rehabilitation program in coordination with his national team’s medical staff,” the club said.
Marseille added that it is working closely with all medical teams involved and wished the player a full recovery.
Marseille, currently seventh in Ligue 1, with two matches remaining in the season, did not give a timeline for his return.
Aguerd is hoping to recover in time to be available for Morocco ahead of upcoming international competitions, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
