The agreements aim to expand bilateral trade and investment, with both countries exploring opportunities in infrastructure, renewable energy, and agriculture.
Qatar Chamber and Kyrgyzstan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry signed two agreements to strengthen economic cooperation and establish a joint Qatari-Kyrgyz Business Council.
The agreements were signed at Qatar Chamber’s headquarters in Doha on Sunday, following a meeting between officials from both countries. The meeting focused on expanding bilateral trade, encouraging joint investments, and strengthening cooperation between the private sectors of Qatar and Kyrgyzstan.
Qatar Chamber First Vice-Chairman Mr. Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Twar Al Kuwari and Kyrgyz Chamber Vice-President Avazbek Kerimbaev signed the agreements following discussions and a visit by the Kyrgyz delegation to the Qatar Chamber.
Al Kuwari said the new business council would provide a platform for businesses in both countries to exchange information, explore commercial opportunities, and strengthen cooperation across sectors. He also proposed holding virtual meetings between business representatives to identify potential investment opportunities and partnerships.
The signing was attended by officials from both countries, including Qatar Chamber Board Member Mohammed bin Jawhar Al Mohamed, Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Director of the National Investment Agency, Meerimbek Koichumanov, and Kyrgyz Ambassador to Qatar Aibek Toktobolotov.
Qatar eyes investment opportunities in Central Asia
Al Mohammed said Qatar’s private sector is keen to expand its cooperation with international markets, particularly in Central Asia. He identified solar energy, infrastructure, agriculture and livestock as promising sectors for cooperation with Kyrgyzstan.
Kyrgyz officials also expressed interest in strengthening economic ties with Qatar, particularly in construction and infrastructure development. Kerimbaev said Kyrgyzstan is looking to increase exports of agricultural products to the Qatari market, while attracting further investment and expanding trade between the two countries. He added that the two agreements would help strengthen business relations, facilitate trade, and encourage mutual investment.
Building on existing economic ties
The agreements build on more than a decade of cooperation between the two chambers. According to the Qatari Embassy in Bishkek, the Qatar Chamber and its Kyrgyz counterpart signed a memorandum of understanding in March 2012, followed by another cooperation agreement in December 2014.
