Morocco’s football team Coach Walid Regragui on Friday promised that the Atlas Lions will “give everything” to make their fans proud at the 2026 World Cup after being drawn in Group C along with Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
Speaking to the press after the draw at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, Regragui said the players would approach all three opponents with respect and determination.
Regragui noted that Morocco’s opening match against Brazil would be a major test, describing the five-time world champions as “one of the favorites” for the tournament.
He also highlighted the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as Brazil’s coach as a further sign of their strength. “This first match will not be easy… they have hired one of the best and most experienced coaches,” he said.
The coach also noted the importance of taking all group opponents seriously, including Haiti, whose playing tactics are relatively unknown to the Moroccan staff.
Regragui said Morocco’s recent achievements, including reaching the semi-final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and winning the U-20 World Cup, have changed how the team is viewed globally.
“The team will have to adapt to the other clubs, the climate, the schedules, the pitches… It’s a completely different competition from Qatar,” he said. “When you want to win this kind of trophy, usually it’s the best team that wins. But in such a tournament, you have to adapt quickly to be competitive.”
The 2026 World Cup will be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The 48 participating nations are divided into 12 groups of four. The top two teams in each group will qualify directly for the round of 32, with the eight best third-placed teams completing the knockout bracket.
