Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Tuesday expressed his country’s desire to normalize relations with Israel “as soon as possible,” while stressing that progress must be linked to a clear path toward a two-state solution.
Speaking at a joint press conference with President Donald Trump at the White House, bin Salman described his talks with U.S. officials as “constructive” and said the kingdom seeks to become part of the Abraham Accords.
“We will work to ensure the proper conditions are in place to achieve this goal as quickly as possible,” he said.
In parallel, bin Salman announced plans to increase Saudi investments in the United States to $1 trillion, up from $600 billion currently.
“The kingdom believes in the future of the American economy,” he said, expressing confidence in the growing bilateral relationship. Trump welcomed the move, calling it “evidence of mutual trust and a shared economic vision.”
Trump also praised bin Salman’s record on human rights, describing the crown prince as “highly respected and a longtime friend,” comments aimed at highlighting the close U.S.-Saudi partnership.
The leaders addressed the 2018 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Bin Salman called the killing a “major mistake” and emphasized that Saudi authorities are taking steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Trump downplayed criticisms of Saudi Arabia over the case, noting that Khashoggi “was a controversial figure” who did not have unanimous support in political circles.
The White House visit underscores Saudi Arabia’s dual focus on regional diplomacy and economic expansion, with normalization talks and large-scale investment pledges signaling the kingdom’s intent to play a more active role on both fronts.
