Tourism in Spain generated a total of 184.002 billion euros in 2023, equivalent to 12.3% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), up 0.9 points on the previous year, according to data published on Thursday by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
In terms of employment, tourism-related economic sectors accounted for 2.5 million jobs, representing 11.6% of total employment, up 0.1 points on 2022.
The main component of tourism consumption in 2023 was tourism spending by foreign visitors, accounting for 55% of the total, an increase of 2.1 points on the previous year.
Tourism-related final demand in 2023 was up 24.5% in volume terms (at current prices), according to the statistics institute.
Up to October, Spain welcomed 82.9 million visitors, up 10.8% on the same period last year, with spending reaching 110,984 million euros (+16.8%).
