Spanish airline Vueling kicked off a new weekly flight on Saturday linking Spain’s Seville, Spain, to Morocco’s Essaouira, opening the first direct air route between the two cities.
Local and tourism officials welcomed the first Saturday flight at Essaouira-Mogador International Airport, highlighting growing European interest in the UNESCO World Heritage–listed city.
Redouane Khan, president of the Essaouira Regional Tourism Council, said, “This new route provides an important opportunity to reach the Andalusian market, which has strong historical ties to our region.”
“It will also help broaden the visitor base and advance the city’s tourism plan for 2026.”
Passenger traffic at Essaouira-Mogador Airport rose 48.6% year-on-year in September, with 29,410 travelers compared to 19,789 during the same month in 2024. Aircraft movements also increased by 53.5%, according to airport data.
