Three Moroccan business tycoons—Othman Benjelloun, Anas Sefrioui, and Aziz Akhannouch—have made their mark on the 2025 Forbes World’s Billionaires list. The list, which includes 3,028 billionaires globally, marks a record-breaking year with an addition of 247 new billionaires and nearly USD 2 trillion in new wealth.
Othman Benjelloun, the 92-year-old CEO of BMCE Bank of Africa, leads the Moroccan presence with a net worth of USD 1.6 billion, ranking him 2110th globally and 14th in Africa. Benjelloun built his fortune through banking and insurance.
His business empire includes a significant stake in the Moroccan arm of French telecom giant Orange, through his holding company O Capital Group (formerly FinanceCom). Benjelloun is also known for his ambitious USD 500 million Mohammed VI Tower project in Rabat, which, once completed, will be one of Africa’s tallest buildings. He has built BMCE Bank of Africa into a leading financial institution with a presence in over 20 African countries.
Anas Sefrioui, the founder and CEO of Groupe Addoha, also shares the same net worth of USD 1.6 billion as Benjelloun, ranking 2110th globally and 14th in Africa. At 67 years old, Sefrioui made his fortune through government-contracted low-cost housing developments across Morocco.
His company has become a leader in the country’s real estate sector. Notably, his daughter, Kenza, serves as the deputy chairman of Groupe Addoha, ensuring the family’s ongoing influence in the company’s operations.
Aziz Akhannouch, Morocco’s current Head of Government, has a net worth of USD 1.5 billion, ranking him 2233rd globally and 16th in Africa. The 64-year-old is the majority owner of Akwa Group, a conglomerate that has diverse interests in petroleum, gas, and chemicals through the publicly traded companies Afriquia Gaz and Maghreb Oxygene.
The Akhannouch family’s influence extends also into fashion through his wife, Salwa Idrissi, who runs a company that holds franchises for luxury brands including Gap, Gucci, and Ralph Lauren in Morocco.
Globally, the United States maintained its lead with 902 billionaires, followed by China with 516 billionaires, and India with 205.
At the top of the list is Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, at no. 1 with an estimated net worth of USD 342 billion, followed by FAceBook and Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg (USD 216 billion), and Amazon and Washington Post CEO Jeff Bezos (USD 215 billion).
