- Air Canada continues to expand in South America.

The Canadian airline strengthens its connectivity between Canada and South America by launching two new routes as of December 2025. These flights, which have been on sale since mid-February, will be operated, initially, during the 2025/26 South American summer season with Boeing 787-8 aircraft configured for 255 passengers.
Beginning December 4th, Air Canada will commence seasonal operations to Rio de Janeiro’s Galeão Airport, to be conducted from Toronto. According to its website, services will run three times a week, offering 765 weekly seats per leg.
Rio de Janeiro will become Air Canada’s second scheduled destination in Brazil after Sao Paulo, its main South American connection. Guarulhos Airport (Sao Paulo) has two regular routes to Canada, both provided by Air Canada. In addition, the carrier also operates to Argentina from Brazil, as the route to Buenos Aires is not non-stop.

About two weeks later, on December 16th, Air Canada’s inaugural flight to Santiago de Chile will depart from Montreal Airport. For the first time, the Chilean capital will have regular non-stop services to Montréal–Trudeau International Airport, which will also be performed throughout the following summer.
Regarding the schedule, these flights will also operate three times weekly, providing the same number of seats per week. Montreal will join Toronto, its only regular destination from Chile, flown on a seasonal basis.
Until March 2024, the Toronto – Santiago de Chile route was operated year-round by Air Canada, but this service has switched to seasonal since then. At the time of publication, as per its website, the last flight between the two cities will be on March 29th, planning to start again on October 30th.

Air Canada made its last flight between Canada and Perú on March 25th, 2023.
Montreal and Toronto had seasonal Air Canada flights to Perú during the South American summer 2022/23, which returned after almost three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since late March 2023, Air Canada has only cargo operations from/to Lima through Air Canada Cargo.
Air Transat began flights to Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima from Montreal and Toronto in December 2023.
The main operator in the Canada-South American market is Air Canada, with four countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Colombia) within the regular network. Air Transat and Avianca are the other carriers with flights in this market.
Several South American countries do not have flights to Canada, including Bolivia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Perú, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Avianca is the only South American airline to operate to Canada, in this case, from Bogotá, the Colombian capital. In addition, it also flies to Pearson Airport from/to San Salvador, serving with a daily frequency on Airbus A320s.
Aerolíneas Argentinas and LATAM were other companies in this market that at some point had flights between South America and Canada. With respect to Aerolineas Argentinas, its last services from Buenos Aires took place in the early-1990s, using Boeing 747-200 aircraft and operating with many stopovers, while with a Miami-based Boeing 727 in 1996. Meanwhile, LATAM ceased flights to Canada in October 2016, when it offered the Sao Paulo – New York JFK – Toronto route on Boeing 767-300(ER) airplanes.
Prior to the merger of LAN and TAM, which took place in May 2016, LAN Airlines used to operate Toronto Pearson from Lima and Santiago de Chile.

On the other hand, Air Canada’s schedule in Central America includes flights to almost 20 countries. The Caribbean has an important presence in the airline’s operations.
