On September 3rd, TAP Air Portugal made a grand entry into the southern Brazilian market with its inaugural flight from Lisbon landing at Florianópolis airport. The airline will be providing three weekly services using Airbus A330-200 aircraft, making it the sole operator for regular flights between Europe and Florianópolis.
With this schedule, TAP will offer a total of 807 seats weekly, distributed among three A330-200s specifically configured for passenger services (CS-TON, CS-TOO, and CS-TOP). The flights will operate every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
TAP Air Portugal has established Brazil as its primary international market, serving 13 routes, all connecting to and from Lisbon and some to Porto.
Additionally, TAP plans to introduce flights between Lisbon and Manaus with a stop in Belem, scheduled to launch on November 5th. Meanwhile, Porto Alegre airport is set to resume domestic flights in October and international services in December. While TAP has not confirmed a return to Porto Alegre, it is projected to happen in 2025.
The Brazilian carrier Azul also announced its expansion into Paraguay, launching four new routes from Silvio Pettirossi airport in Asunción. Confirmed flights will commence on December 2nd from Campinas, followed by services from Curitiba starting December 3rd, and additional routes to Recife and Florianópolis by mid-December.
Turkish Airlines is enhancing its operations in Latin America with the introduction of a new route to Santiago de Chile, starting December 18th. This route will connect Istanbul to Santiago via São Paulo, providing four weekly flights using Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
Highlights of the Latin American market include various airline expansions and resumptions. Several carriers are either adding new routes or resuming services after brief hiatuses:
– Aerolíneas Argentinas is resuming flights between Córdoba and El Calafate starting September 16th, with two flights per week.

In addition, Avianca will be introducing new routes in October and December, using Airbus A320s. Emirates will boost capacity on the Dubai – Rio de Janeiro – Buenos Aires route starting October 26th and introduce an additional flight weekly during peak season.
Other notable news includes the resumption of services by Flybondi and GOL Linhas Aéreas, as well as new operations by SKY Airline and JetSMART in South America.
