Video evidence obtained by Barlamane.com has allegedly confirmed that a member of Algeria’s national football team staff removed an official match ball during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) game against Equatorial Guinea at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat on Wednesday.
The outlet uploaded exclusive footage allegedly showing a staff member concealing the official AFCON match balls from inside the stadium during the match. The video contradicts earlier denials from the Algerian delegation and confirms suspicions raised during a post-match inspection.
Confederation of African Football (CAF) officials launched an internal inquiry after discovering that only 13 of the 15 officially approved balls were accounted for after the final whistle.
After the game, a CAF coordinator went to the Algerian team’s dressing room and recovered the ball, Barlamane.com reported.
Members of the Algerian staff reportedly denied taking it, but backed down after being informed that the incident had been captured on video, Barlamane indicated.
