Winners of the sixth edition of the Green March Through the Eyes of Young Filmmakers competition were honored Thursday evening in Rabat, at a ceremony attended by several figures from Morocco’s arts and entertainment scene.
The competition is organized by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sports in cooperation with the Moroccan Cinematographic Center and the Moroccan Cinematheque.
The grand prize went to PRISE 9, a short film directed by young filmmakers Jamal Kroudi and Chama Ben Bella.
The award for most promising talent was given to Al-Bareh, directed by Mehdi Massassi, while the special jury prize went to Sofiane Salamat for his film One Step, the Same Pace. The jury was chaired by actor Youssef Britel.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Youth, Culture and Sports Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid said this year’s commemoration of the Green March coincides with Unity Day, describing the competition as an opportunity to celebrate young people’s creativity.
He said the initiative reflected the directives of King Mohammed VI, who has placed young people at the center of various sectoral programs.
Bensaid praised young filmmakers for drawing inspiration from Morocco’s history and national memory, and for expressing their sense of belonging through film and visual storytelling.
The minister said the competition sought to make culture, art and cinema platforms for youth expression, using creativity to promote citizenship values and national memory as a starting point for shaping the future.

He described the Green March as more than a historical event commemorated on national occasions, calling it a landmark that reflected the leadership of the late King Hassan II, the Moroccan people’s attachment to the monarchy and their commitment to what he described as the country’s just causes, particularly the Western Sahara issue.
Bensaid also stressed the importance of preserving national memory and passing its values on to younger generations through cultural and artistic expression.
He said the competition gave young filmmakers an opportunity to present their own interpretations of the Green March, adding that the ministry had a responsibility to provide training, guidance and creative spaces to help emerging artists develop their skills and move toward professional filmmaking and sustainable cultural production.
